Ultra-violet, or UV, rays are wavelengths of light that are not visible to the human eye. There are three kinds of UV rays: UVA, UVB, and UVC.
Most people are aware that UV rays cause sunburn and are good at protecting their skin. However, protecting the eyes from harmful UV rays is often overlooked. When buying sunglasses, ensure they provide 100% protection against UVB rays and at least 99% protection from UVA rays.
Shorter blue light waves are responsible for the most visibility problems. These waves can’t be properly focused inside your eye and may cause "blue blur," leading to eyestrain and fatigue.
Blue light waves also cause "veiling glare," which occurs when blue light scatters off dust and moisture particles in the atmosphere. This is common in fog, rain, snow, and overcast conditions.
Lenses that selectively filter out most blue light waves can reduce glare, increase contrast, and provide a clearer, sharper image. It's important not to block all blue light, as this would distort colors. A balanced amount of blue light, along with green, yellow, and red light, ensures that colors remain natural.
You can have sunglasses made with your prescription, which is much more convenient than using Clip-ons.
